Favourite Memories and Accomplishments

One of my favourite memories was when I went to the Philippines. This was one of my favourite memories because it was where I was born and I haven’t been there in five years. We went swimming in a resort that my great uncle owns and we also visited a lot of family. We did a lot of shopping and went to Mall of Asia. We also rode a ship going to an island called Corregidor which was the battle ground of the war between the Filipinos and Japanese. In Corregidor, we went inside a tunnel where many Japanese committed suicide because they didn’t want to surrender.

Another one of my favourite memories was the summer of 2013. We went to many places such as Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. We also went to see the Niagara Falls. We went up the CN Tower and we went on many rides in Canada’s Wonderland. We visited the Parliament building and went on a tour around Ottawa and Montreal.

One of my favourite accomplishments was getting three awards last year. I got a golden honour roll. I also got two academic awards for math and English.

My Three Favorite Memories:
One of my favorite memories is meeting hall of fame basketball player Clyde Drexlar. My old school Dalhousie got the opportunity to meet him and some Harlem globe trotters. We also got to see the NBA finals trophy.
Another one of favorite memories is going to Calgary for a swim meet. The plane ride was only 2 and a half hours. In the swim meet I only got a silver and a bronze.
The last of my favorite memories is making my first basket in basketball. I remember this because I took  25 shots and only made one, I was so happy even though I was only two feet away from the basket.
Memories/Achievements

My first memory is when I went to Maui, Hawaii in 2014. I went with my family and my friends family. I went snorkelling, on a submarine ride, and drove up the mountains.

My second achievement is when I went to Calgary for volleyball nationals a couple weeks ago. It was a lot of fun and my team did alright.

My third memory and achievement is when I got on the honour roll.

Favourite Memories or Accomplishments

One of my favourite memories are when I went on a trip to on a Cessna plane. This was fun for me because it was the first time that I had ever been a Cessna. It is different from commercial planes because it is much smaller, and you have access to all of the flight controls, as well as ground control. A fun part from this was that the pilot let me fly the plane for a short while over downtown Winnipeg. I got to control the lift of the plane, and steer it side to side. This was fun because I never had flown a plane before, and it felt amazing to be in control of a plane, while listening to ground control on headphones.

One of my accomplishments is that I took part in a provincial science fair called the Manitoba Schools Science Symposium. This year, I did a project to determine if there is a relationship between cinnamon and a cure for Alzheimer's disease. For the project, I received a silver medal, and 2 sponsorships from neuroscience committees, as well as 250 dollars for the project.

Another accomplishment is that I got 4th place in a doubles badminton tournament with Kavisha. This was special because it was the first time that I was able to win something in a badminton tournament. Also, I was able to improve in my badminton skills from last year, and be able to place in the top 4 in a badminton tournament.

Accomplishments/Memories

One of my memories and accomplishemnts I have is winning basketball championships last year at St. Pauls gym. This was memorable for me because this was my first year playing basketball, and I was able to make the competitive team.

Another memory is going to Jamaica for the first time when I was in grade 5. It was memorable for me because it was like my first real family vacation and I met a lot of nice people and stayed at a really nice hotel.

An accomplishment I have is getting on the honor roll last year and this year. This is an accomplishment for me because I worked very hard to make it on to the honour roll and it payed off.

My Three Best Accomplishments in grade 4-8 by Bennet Finney 8A

My Three Best Accomplishments in grade 4-8

by Bennet Finney 8A

My three best accomplishments in my life are all in school. First being getting first place in everything in our school for track except for long jump in grade 4. That year I tried hard to win all events and was proud of myself for doing so. My second is being getting an academic award in grade 7 for band. In grade 7, I loved band and wanted to succeed to playing an instrument and that produced an award for my effort. My last accomplishment is getting two sports awards this year for basketball and Ultimate Frisbee. I wanted to win an award this year really bad and I did so I feel very proud and confident in myself and my sports abilities.

Favourite Memories/ Accomplishments

One of my favourite memories was when I went to Clear Lake last Summer in July. I went with my friend, her family, and another friend. I got to see so many beautiful things and did a lot of fun stuff. We went paddle boarding and swimming during the day, and went shopping and got ice cream in the evening. I had some fun memories that I will never forget and I would go again if I got the chance.

Another favourite memory of mine was going to Vancouver, British Columbia for the Vancouver Whitecaps soccer tournament this Spring break. I loved the experience of team travel and the bonding we got to do there. We got to go sight seeing and we played great competition there because we played in an age advanced division. I got put in a hotel room with my best friend so it made the trip that much more fun and I have some unforgettable memories there.

Lastly I would like to talk about one of my accomplishments. That is making the U14 girls Bonivital soccer team. I am glad I am still on this team. I always enjoy myself at practices and games because my teammates and I have bonded so much over the years and they are important friends. It is nice being part of a team and having a common goal. That is something I will always remember and be proud of.

Math
In this math unit we are doing patterns and relations. We are able to describe patterns on the graph of a linear relation, create a table of values using the points on the graph, determine the missing value in an ordered pair for a linear equation. Describe the relationship between the variables on a graph, decide if a table of values represents a linear relation, graph points from a table of values. Create a table of values by substituting in a linear equation, construct a graph from a linear equation using integers, and determine the missing value in an ordered pair for a given equation.

For example, I will show you how to determine the missing value in an ordered pair for a linear equation. First you analyze the equation, for example, the equation is y= 3x. Now you find the x values, for example, the x values are 1,2,3,and 4. Now you do the first equation which is y= 3x (x= 1). The answer to the first equation is 3, because you multiply 3 and 1. And to finish the linear equation you just do the same thing with 2,3.and 4.

Electromagnetic Spectrum

Electromagnetic spectrum is the term used to describe the whole range of different types of electromagnetic radiation. In light waves, electric and magnetic fields vibrate therefore light is classified as electromagnetic radiation. This is an energy that travels and spreads out as it goes. Hotter, more energetic objects create higher radiation than cooler objects.

Some types of electromagnetic radiation include: radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, x-rays, and gamma rays. Visible light only takes up a small part of the spectrum. Everything on the spectrum may seem different, but they are still electromagnetic radiation.

Back to School After Ezams

Back to School After Exams

We’re now back to school after a four-day week of exams. We’ve been studying hard, and had a three-day weekend, but now it’s back to learning new things.

The first day back to school on Monday, February 2nd, we were all anxious to see our marks on how well we did on the exams. But after seeing our marks, we got back to starting new units. In Math we started our Integers unit; in English we started our Poetry unit; in Science we started our Fluids unit; and in Social we started our Egypt unit. In other classes we got back to learning from where we left off before exams.

It’s now a new term, which means we can start fresh, and do better than the last term. Either study harder, finish all our homework, and boost our marks up to impress the teacher, if that’s possible…
BLOG POST
For my blog post I will be talking about exams. We wrote four exams for four days straight. The exams we wrote were mathematics, ELA, social studies, and science. We wrote our examinations from January 26th to January 30th. Each exam consisted of multiple choices, fill in the blanks, true and false, short answers, and long answers. Our first exam that we wrote was science. The second exam that we wrote was ELA. The third exam that we wrote was mathematics. The fourth and last exam was social studies.

After each exam the exam would finish at 11:00 am and you were to go home or stay at study hall. Thank you for listening to my blog post.

Persuasive Writing Topic Ideas

 Persuasive writing topic Ideas
By:Georgette Caranay 8A

Good Morning, Recently in English class we were assigned to come up with a persuasive speech and it was informed to be completed by this upcoming Tuesday. A persuasive speech is a specific type of speech in which the speaker has a goal of convincing the audience to accept his or her point of view. I decided to come up with a few topic ideas for those who want more school related and could possibly be beneficial to those who still need a topic. Here are my following topics: Should college athletes be paid for playing? Should student’s textbooks be replaced by notebook computers? Should students’ grades in gym affect their grade point averages? Should girls be allowed to play on boys sports teams? Should schools offer fast food options like Mcdonalds, KFC, Taco bell, etc?

Should students be allowed to eat during class? Should students learn world religion in public schools?  Should exams be replaced by other forms of testing performances? Should there be more casual days to express more of students’ personalities? Is a good education a right or a privilege? Should the school cafeteria provide more vegetarian lunch options to suit all eating habits of students? Do you think single-sex schools are a good idea? Schools should not be allowed to watch over what a student does on the internet during school time for it invades the privacy of that student. Finally, should school start later in the morning? With the following topics listed above, I hope it benefited to a few of you and gave you ideas on topics to write for your persuasive speeches. Thank you!

Egypt

In social studies class we have started a new unit on Egypt, and more specifically, the building of the pyramids. The Egyptians built the pyramids as the final resting place for the pharaohs. The Egyptian people believed that the pyramid could restore life to a deceased pharaoh. The largest pyramid was built for pharaoh Cheops, though all the pyramids have been stripped of there outer limestone cover, the largest one still has limestone at the top. This limestone shows how much work went into the pyramids being as it was smooth on the outside, unlike a step pyramid. Though the pyramids were made for the pharaohs, the builders could have pyramids also. Though the builders could have a pyramid they would be much smaller then the size of the pharaoh's pyramid. A common misconception about the building of the pyramids was that, the pyramids were built by starved slaves. The truth is that the pyramid was felt by Egyptians who were fed and treated very well. I hope this has taught you something about Egypt.
